    For general information, a mental health provider can only legally and ethically see clients that reside in states or countries that the provider is licensed in.

    The Interstate Counseling Compact is working to make this easier for everyone to accomplish, but for the time being, a provider must be licensed in the individual state the potential client resides in.

  • To find a therapist, start by checking your health insurance provider’s directory for in-network professionals or using online directories like Psychology Today, ZocDoc, and GoodRx. You can also ask your primary care physician for a referral.
